My Story

I'm Bryn, a twentysomething recent college graduate, a Mormon, living the (mostly) make-up free life in Smalltown, Utah (not a real town...). I earned my BA in English Lit and, even after years of binge reading, I still love a good book. I grew up in Wisconsin (go Packers!) and was raised with my little sister by my single dad. The rest of my family (Mom, siblings, etc) lived in Utah, and I always felt a yearning to live permanently with them. I followed my dreams in 2005 and moved my entire life to Utah! While Provo wasn't exactly what I'd expected, I stuck it out and graduated from Provo High in 2007.

Shortly after, I moved to Oahu, Hawaii for a few months with my sister-in-law's younger sister, Hollie the hairdresser. Basically, I drank a lot of kava and tried to figure out life for three months while beaching it up and working at Subway. It was the perfect post-high school trip. I returned to Utah totally broke but with a better idea of what I wanted out of life. I tried dating my best friend for a few months, but things went horribly wrong and I ended up with a broken heart. That happens sometimes.

When I met my cute honey, I didn't know what I wanted, and he and I kept our relationship very casual. We ended up dating for only a few months before we both knew that we needed to get married. I never thought I'd be one of those girls who gets married so quickly, but that totally ended up being me. We dated for a total of nine months before tying the knot. I married my abrasive, crazy, sweet husband when I was twenty years old, at a library in January of 2009, after knowing him for barely a year.

My husband is in the Army National Guard and is a police officer. Hopefully you'll understand why I don't mention where we live or other personal details. OPSEC (operational security) is crazy important, and I don't want to become a target of bad people. My husband went on a deployment to Iraq in 2011, and he had a wonderful experience. My time wasn't too bad either, since I lived in Oahu with my sister-in-law, Alex and our awesome friend Amanda. We also stayed in Maryland for a few months when Amanda moved for work and needed a nanny for her boys. Our relationship was strained at times, but Josh and I both had faith that we were doing what we needed to be doing for our future. Neither of us have regretted those months we spent apart, and I think that having a few months completely on my own was good for me in building my independence and confidence as an adult.

Sometimes my dog is my favorite person. I am passionate about my friends. I don't care how scattered they are around the country (or the world), combined with my family they mean everything to me. I love kids. I've nannied, taught preschool, worked at daycares, and have a job working at a residential treatment facility for teen girls. Family is everything to me. My struggle with infertility has been more difficult than anything I've ever imagined, but my husband's love can get me through anything. Josh and I rock our motorcycle trips every summer on our BMW 1150 GS, and we have a lot of fun doing it. I love to travel and share my adventures. Reading and writing are my passions, but I love a good cupcake too, when the mood strikes me. I'm not perfect, but I have a great relationship with my husband and with God, and that's what matters to me. This blog might be random and scattered, but it's full of heart, pain, and love. I'm Bryn, and welcome to Mayhem with the Moody's.
